Bentley, Grenadiers pitch back to back shutouts to advance in NAIA World Series

IU South Eastern advances to the third round of the winners bracket late Monday night in Idaho.

Late Monday night in Idaho, the Indiana University South Eastern Grenadiers took on the Tennessee Wesleyan University Bulldogs in the second round of the NAIA World Series.

Connersville’s Chance Bentley contributed to the Grenadiers three run first inning as he collected an RBI on a bases loaded groundout to put IUSE up 3 after the top of the first inning. IUSE would add two more runs in the fourth inning to go up 5-0.

After a weather delay in the fifth inning, the Grenadiers would get an impressive performance for relief pitcher Jake Gothrup who earned a save for his 4 innings of shut out baseball allowing just one hit and striking out 5. His performance was as impressive as the Grenadiers starter Luca Sandrella who pitched five innings of shutout baseball allowing just three hits and striking out five.

Chance Bentley would go 0 for 4 on the game with the one RBI, but hit the ball hard in multiple at bats but the Bulldogs defense just made the play to get the outs. Through two games, Chance has collected three hits in his 8 at bats, walked twice, hit a grand slam, and has collected 6 RBI’s.

The Grenadiers are schedule to play on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. against Southeastern University in the winners bracket still. Currently there are seven teams that have not been eliminated and only three that have yet to lose (IUSE, William & Carey and Southeastern). By the time the Grenadiers step on the field tomorrow night, there will be two more teams eliminated.
