
Margaret E. Bowling of Liberty passed away on Wednesday morning April 1, 2026, at the age of 91. Margaret was born in Wayne County, Indiana on September 23, 1934, to David Preston Overbey and Cordia Jane Snyder Overbey.
She was an honor student graduating from Short High School in 1952. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. On July 27, 1963, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Strother A. Bowling. They shared 44 years of marriage prior to his death in 2008.
In her younger years, she was a waitress at several of the area truck stops. Later, Margaret was a cook at Park Manor Nursing Home and retired from Sycamore Springs in Liberty. Creativity flowed in her veins. She loved to draw with many of her drawings receiving art awards. She enjoyed playing bingo and working on puzzles. Above all, and most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.
Surviving to cherish and remember Margaret are her children, Margaret Sims, David (Myra) Bowling, Deborah Green and Jeff (Courtney McDaniels) Hobbs, grandchildren, Chris (Christine) Bowling, Justin (Dawn Hawkins) Bowling, Danielle Troope, Whitney Manlove, Jason Troope, Adam (Nakyla) Green, Janelle Green, Jeffery Hobbs, and Ben Hobbs; great grandchildren, Madison, Easton, Collin, Kaylee, and Mason, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Herschel Overbey, John Overbey, Eugene Overbey, Irene Daniels and Betty Overbey, and her beloved dog, Preston.
Friends and family may gather at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N Main, Liberty on Thursday April 9, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dean VanWinkle officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest next to her husband, Strother, at Richland Cemetery.
