Eva Fern Stone, 81, of Connersville, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by the love of her family.

One of nine children of Chris and Sarah (Janie) Peters, Eva was born on March 20, 1944, in Berea, Kentucky. At the age of five, her family moved to Indiana. She attended local schools and later earned an Associate Degree in Computer Science from Ivy Tech.

On March 20, 1972, Eva was united in marriage to John Parker Stone. Together, they built a life centered on family and service.

A woman of strong work ethic, Eva began her career at the Harrison Shoe Factory and Ford in Connersville. She later joined the United States Postal Service, where she dedicated many years of service as a clerk and Postmaster in several offices.

Eva was deeply involved in her community and a member of several organizations, including the Master Gardeners, Fayette Garden Club, Silver Sneakers, TOPS, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In her leisure time, she was an avid gardener with a passion for growing flowers and hunting mushrooms. She was also a talented artisan, creating beautiful baskets and quilts to pass down to her loved ones.

Affectionately known as “The Travelling Grandparents” by many of her grandchildren’s teammates, Eva and John were fixtures at volleyball and football games, recitals, concerts, and cross-country and track meets. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was supporting her family.

Survivors include her husband of over 53 years, John Stone; three children, Ronald (Diane) Still of Connersville, Susan (Richard) Sandhage of Greencastle, and James René (Teresa) Still of Franklin; and two step-children, Jonda Willamee and Jeff Stone. She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by three sisters, Elizabeth “Eliza” Hoskins, Mina Martharine Brock, and Bettie Joan Peters; a sister-in-law, Gladys (Peters) Hignite; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her smiling face.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Russell Shawn Hunt; five infant siblings (three sisters and two brothers); two brothers, Chester Arthur Peters and William “Dub” Christopher Peters; two sisters, Wanda Jean Brock and Louverta Loucinda Lainhart; a sister-in-law, Maggie Peters; and a brother-in-law, Delbert Hoskins.

Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Reverend Glen Goins will officiate.
