Remembering Martin Duane Geis: A Legacy of Love and Family

Martin Duane Geis 76 of Springersville went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2026. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Martin was born on August 29, 1949 in Richmond, Indiana, the son of the late Harry and Thelma Geis.

Martin grew up in Union County where he was a student at Short High School and was a lifelong member at St Bridget’s Catholic Church.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Sharon Stemm, on June 16, 1973 at St. Bridget’s. They shared 52 years of marriage prior to his death and were blessed with 1 daughter and twin sons. He also had 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Martin dedicated 22 years to D&M manufacturing and later retired from PMC plastics in Shelbyville, Indiana in 2016.

Martin was rarely without his pipe; a familiar presence that became part of who he was.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing cards and spending quality time with his family. He especially enjoyed camping alongside his wife and making memories. Martin also took great pride in his garden. In his family’s eyes he had the best looking garden in Fayette County. He would often be seen tending to it and loved sharing his crops with friends and family. If you visited Martin in the summer time you would without a doubt be invited to go take a walk down to the garden to look at it.

Martin is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Crystal Ramey (Scott) of Liberty, his son Trever Geis (Andra) of Connersville, his grandchildren Raegan Shamblin, Kaleb Dare, Luke Snyder, Autumn Logan and two great grandsons Crew Telker and Trace Shamblin all from Connersville. Brothers Dennis Geis (Alta) and Rodney Geis (Sherry) of Connersville, sisters Carol Lecklider (John) of Rushville and Charlene Byrley (Don) of Liberty. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Harry and Thelma Geis, brothers; David, Larry, Arnold, Tony and Steve, sisters Judy and Carmen; a son Travis Geis and precious grandson Clay Geis.

Friends and family can visit Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home located at 310 N Main Street Liberty, IN 47353 on Thursday January 8, 2026 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday January 9, 2026, 11:00AM at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Liberty. Burial will follow in Springersville Cemetery.
