Susie (Brandenburg) Hall, of Connersville
Susie (Brandenburg) Hall, of Connersville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, at 10:00 p.m., in her home, surrounded by loved ones, the sounds of children nearby, and the lingering smell of home-cooked food still in the kitchen. She left this world the same way she lived in it, held by family, rooted in home, and deeply connected to those around her.
Born on June 8, 1931, Susie was the daughter of the late Jesse Brandenburg and Effie (Flannery) Brandenburg. As the oldest of thirteen children, she stepped early into a role she would carry for the rest of her life, the one who held the family together. She remembered birthdays, kept names alive, and made sure no one drifted too far from where they came from.
Susie was married to Ronald Hall, who preceded her in death in 2000. She was a devoted mother to Rhonda Sue (Hall) Friend, Roger Hall, and Penny (Hall) Wolfe, all of whom survive her, and was preceded in death by her daughter Debby (Hall) Fitzgerald. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and she believed deeply in legacy, not as something written down, but as something lived, practiced, and passed hand to hand.
She is survived by her brothers Eugene Brandenburg and Darrell Parrett, and was preceded in death by her remaining siblings.
Susie lived by the traditions of her Appalachian roots. She attended every family reunion and insisted that people come home, sit together, and remember who they belonged to. Each year, she faithfully observed Decoration Day, visiting the graves of loved ones to clean headstones, place flowers, and speak names aloud. To her, remembrance was sacred, and tending to those who came before was part of caring for those who remained.
She practiced the oral traditions of her family. Everyone knew the feeling of sitting around while Susie told her stories. Some were unbelievable, some hilarious, some hard to explain, and many likely true. Through those stories, she taught the names in our history, kept people alive, carried history forward, and reminded everyone that the past was never really gone.
Susie was an active and devoted, lifelong member of Garrison Creek Baptist Church, where she served as Missionary Secretary and as a Sunday School teacher, sharing her faith, wisdom, and steady presence with generations of children. She participated in local Crime Watch efforts, looking out for neighbors. She believed community was something you protected.
She found comfort and joy in the quiet things, such as flowers in bloom, birds at the feeder, and yarn moving steadily through her hands. Crochet and quilting were how she showed care when words were not enough. She watched birds, tended flowers, listened closely, and noticed what others missed. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome, where food was never just food, but an invitation to stay, to talk, and to belong.
To know Susie was to know the feeling of being held together. She was the one who watched, remembered, prayed, warned, and gathered. Her absence leaves a quiet space that cannot be filled, only honored. Her legacy lives on in the stories still told, the traditions still practiced, the faith still carried, and the family that remains connected because of her.
Funeral services will be held at Garrison Creek Baptist Church, located at 5952 S Garrison Rd, Connersville, IN 47331 on Saturday. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a visitation brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place immediately thereafter.
In honor of Susie’s lifelong love of quilting and giving, the family asks that guests bring a quilt, baby blanket, or handmade item she made for them, if they wish. These will be draped along the pews during the service as a visual testament to the love she stitched into the lives of others.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller, Moster & Robbins Funeral Home of Connersville, Indiana.
