The Connersville Varsity Spartans showcased a determined offensive effort on Thursday, May 15th, out-hitting South Dearborn eight to two, but ultimately fell just short in a close 5-4 contest on the road.
Connersville’s bats were active throughout the game, producing 4 runs. Kolton DeBoard spearheaded the attack, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Aaron Kidd also had a strong day at the plate, delivering two hits in four at-bats and driving in a team-high 2 runs. Parker Flanigan contributed a hit, scored twice, drew a walk, and was a threat on the basepaths with two stolen bases. Brayton Shearer added a hit and a run, while Zane Bentley also singled and drew a walk. As a team, the Spartans collected 8 hits and 3 walks.
South Dearborn managed to capitalize on their opportunities, plating 5 runs despite their limited hit count. The home team drew 11 walks from Connersville pitching, which proved crucial. Maddox Williams and Ryker Morris each collected one of South Dearborn’s two hits and an RBI. Key scoring for South Dearborn occurred in the third inning, propelled by Williams’ single and walks drawn by Mason Hamlett and Jackson Johnson, all of whom were credited with an RBI. Johnson was particularly patient, drawing three walks in the game, a feat matched by teammate Gabe Perry.
On the pitching front for Connersville, Gavin Brannon started and took the loss. Over four innings, Brannon allowed four runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out seven batters but issuing six walks and hitting two batsmen. Aaron Kidd provided two innings of relief, allowing one unearned run on no hits, with four strikeouts and five walks.
For South Dearborn, Izaak Lozier earned the victory on the mound. The starter pitched six and one-third innings, surrendering four runs on seven of Connersville’s eight hits, while striking out six and walking three.
Defensively, Connersville committed three errors, while South Dearborn made one.
