The Connersville Lady Spartans showcased a powerful offensive display and solid defense as they cruised to a 14-1 victory against Cambridge City Lincoln on Thursday, May 15th. The win highlighted the team’s hitting prowess and aggressive base running.
The tone was set early, with the Lady Spartans jumping on the board in the first inning, sparked by a single from Carmen Ruble (2-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBIs). The offensive pressure continued in the second frame, featuring an RBI single from Arianna Escobal (1-for-1, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB) and an RBI double by Bre Brock (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB).
By the top of the third, a ground out by Maggie Spurlock (1-for-3, 1 R, 2 RBIs, 1 BB) had extended the lead to 5-1. However, the defining moment came in the fourth inning when the Lady Spartans exploded for seven runs. This decisive rally included a run on a dropped third strike, an RBI double from Ruble, an RBI walk by Spurlock, a two-run double by Addie Phillips (2-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBIs, 1 SB), and a two-run single from Camryn Fox (1-for-1, 2 RBIs, 1 SB).
Several other players contributed to the commanding performance: T Selby added a hit and a run (1-for-2). Pitcher Jade Green helped her own cause, scoring three runs and getting a hit (1-for-2, 1 BB, 1 SB). Avery Dungan drew two walks and scored a run, while A Lovins and K Carpenter also crossed the plate.
Green was also formidable in the circle, earning the win by allowing only one run on four hits over five innings, striking out seven and issuing no walks. For Cambridge City Lincoln, Braelyn Sourbeer pitched four innings, conceding 12 runs (11 earned) on nine hits, with two strikeouts and five walks.
Collectively, the Lady Spartans racked up 11 hits and demonstrated strong plate discipline with five walks against only three strikeouts. Their aggressive strategy on the bases resulted in seven stolen bases. The defense was equally impressive, playing an error-free game, with Phillips leading in fielding chances.
Paige Pitcock was a standout for Cambridge City Lincoln, going 1-for-2 and driving in her team’s lone run. Addyson Pitcock, Reilynn Ferguson, and Keilyn Sherwood also contributed hits for Lincoln.
The Connersville Lady Spartans will look to carry this momentum into their next contest on today when they travel to Greensburg.
