The Union County Varsity Patriots showcased their resilience and timely hitting on Thursday, May 15th, battling their way to an exciting 6-3 victory over the Batesville Varsity Bulldogs.
The Patriots wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Addisyn Schneider delivering an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to give the home team an early lead.
Though Batesville answered back to take a temporary lead in the second, Union County kept their composure. The game saw a crucial momentum swing in the bottom of the fourth when Addison Shepler came through with a sacrifice fly, knotting the score at 2-2.
After Batesville edged ahead again in the top of the fifth, the Patriots’ bats came alive in the bottom half of the inning. Carsyn Garrett delivered a clutch single that proved to be the game-winner, pushing Union County ahead 4-3. The team would add to this lead to secure the victory.
On the mound, Kamora Klingman pitched a strong complete game for the Patriots. Over seven innings of work, Klingman allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five batters and walking three, earning the well-deserved win.
Offensively, Union County collected a solid ten hits. Carsyn Garrett was a key run producer, leading the team with two RBIs. Showing depth throughout the lineup, Ally Gray, Harly Pilgrim, and Addisyn Schneider each contributed significantly with two hits apiece.
The Patriots also flashed some leather, playing error-free defense throughout the contest. Addisyn Schneider was a standout in the field, handling six chances flawlessly, and the team successfully turned a double play.
