Lady Spartans Fall to Yorktown Junior Varsity Tigers in Tough Matchup

The Connersville JV Spartans faced a tough opponent in the Yorktown Junior Varsity Tigers on Friday, resulting in an 18-4 loss for the lady Spartans.

Yorktown took an early lead in the first inning when Hadlee Barnard singled, bringing in two runs. They continued to build on this lead in the second inning with Cali Smith grounding out for an RBI, Rylie Perkins singling for another run, and two more runs scoring on an error.

The third inning saw Yorktown significantly extend their lead, scoring seven runs on three hits. The scoring included an RBI walk by Smith, an RBI single from Tatelynn King, a sacrifice fly by Perkins that scored two runs, and a three-run homer to left field by Lucy Melton.

Yorktown added another five runs in the top of the fourth inning on five hits. Two runs scored on an error, Macie Nixon singled in a run, another run came in on an error, and Barnard singled to score one more.

Olivia Rivera started on the mound for the lady Spartans. Over five innings, the right-hander allowed 15 hits and 18 runs (10 earned), while striking out two and walking ten. For Yorktown, Taydem was the starting pitcher. She pitched two innings, giving up one hit and two runs (one earned), with three strikeouts and two walks.

Alaylah Ketcham led the lady Spartans offensively, going 1-for-2 at the plate and stealing two bases.

The Yorktown Junior Varsity Tigers accumulated 15 hits throughout the game. Tatelynn King had a strong performance from the leadoff spot, going 4-for-4. Hadlee Barnard and Lucy Melton were also key contributors, each driving in three runs. Dezirea Walker had two hits in four at-bats for Yorktown, and Macie Nixon drew a team-high three walks. Overall, Yorktown demonstrated good plate discipline, drawing 10 walks in the game.

Looking ahead, the lady Spartans are scheduled to play their next game on Tuesday against the Beech Grove Junior Varsity Hornets on the road. Coach Jason McHenry emphasized the need to “fix the errors and focus on the next game.”
