Thomas D. Powers, 76, of Connersville

Thomas D. Powers 76 of Connersville passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. He was born on November 25, 1949, in Richmond to Thomas E. Powers and Anna Mae Runyon Powers.
On November 22, 1997, he was united in marriage to the former Vickie Bachmann in Connersville. They shared 28 years of marriage prior to his death.
He was very proud of the time he served in the United States Army and the National Guard. While serving in the National Guard he attained the rank of Major. He served for a total of 27 years. He often referred to himself as “Major Dad” with a sly smile and a laugh.
Thomas most recently attended Community Gospel Church and was a previous member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he enjoyed being a member of the choir.
For many years Thomas was a member of the American Legion, Amvets and the Moose. He worked at Meg in Cambridge City and Roots here in Connersville. You could also find him building fences in the surrounding communities. In his younger days, he enjoyed bowling, participating in several leagues. He was an avid IU fan, loved playing and coaching baseball, golfing, singing, and listening to music. Thomas was known for his wit, constantly bringing joy through his humor. He loved and respected all he met. His most valued treasure was the times he spent with his family.
Along with his loving wife, Vickie, he is survived by his daughter, Amy (Trent) Deer and a son, Thomas Shane Powers; 3 grandchildren, Conner Deer, Cole Deer and Zach Powers; his sisters, Dana Tenselle, Carol Doss and Kelly R. Powers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Opal Lynn Powers.
Keeping with Thomas’s wishes, cremation was chosen. Urban Winkler Funeral Home is honored to assist his family with the arrangements.
