In a defensive showcase at the Spartan Bowl, the Connersville Spartans secured a 41–33 victory over the Franklin County Wildcats to reclaim the Cross County Classic hardware. The contest was a true battle of attrition, with both squads leaning heavily on their defensive identities.
Defensive Dominance
The story of the night was the Spartans’ stifling defense, which held Franklin County to just 27% shooting from the field (11-for-41). Connersville also controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Wildcats 27–24, and maintained superior ball security with only 8 turnovers compared to 9 for the visitors.
Spartan Offensive Leaders
Connersville utilized a balanced scoring attack to overcome the Wildcats’ pressure:
- Hunter Allen: Led the way with 12 points.
- Jay McMullen: Followed closely with 10 points.
- Maddox Rees Contributed 9 points in the winning effort.
- Grady Simpkins Added 4 points.
- Zaine Bentley Eli Laughlin, and Logan Young: Each chipped in 2 points.
As a team, the Spartans shot 44% from the floor (16-for-36), including 4-for-13 from beyond the arc.

Despite the tough shooting night, several Wildcats kept Franklin County within striking distance:

The win moves Connersville to a 13-9 record on the season as they prepare to host Northeastern next Friday. Franklin County will look to bounce back at home against Geo Next Generation on Tuesday.
