Overnight Pursuit Leads to Narcotics Seizure and Arrest

CONNERSVILLE, IN — A vehicle pursuit that began as a routine traffic stop early Wednesday morning ended in a crash and the discovery of illegal narcotics.

The Pursuit

The incident began at approximately 2:01 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, when Fayette County Deputy P. Mollaun attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the intersection of 8th Street and Oak Street. The driver refused to yield, prompting Deputies Mollaun and T. Young to begin a vehicle pursuit.

The chase continued through local roads until reaching the area of 175 South and State Road 121. At that location, Captain D. Rowland successfully executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to bring the vehicle to a halt. The maneuver resulted in the suspect vehicle leaving the roadway and coming to rest in an embankment.

Investigation and Narcotics Discovery

Once the vehicle was secured, Connersville Police Officer S. McClure and his K9 partner, Joker, arrived on the scene to assist. During an exterior sniff of the vehicle, K9 Joker provided a positive indication for the odor of narcotics.

A subsequent search of the vehicle by deputies uncovered:

  • Methamphetamine
  • Marijuana
  • Multiple items of drug paraphernalia

Scene Response

The scene saw a coordinated response from local emergency and law enforcement agencies. Additional units from the Connersville Police Department assisted the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department at the site.

Medical and fire personnel from the Everton Fire Department and Fayette County EMS also responded to the 10-50 (accident) call to provide evaluation and scene safety. Carstar of Connersville handled the recovery and towing of the vehicle from the embankment.

The investigation is ongoing, and official charges are expected to be filed as the case moves to the prosecutor’s office.
