INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Legislative leaders are preparing to debate a major tax relief package that Governor Mike Braun says will provide “historic” relief to Hoosier families. According to the Governor’s 2025 State of the State agenda, the plan aims to return nearly $900 million to taxpayers over the next two years.

The proposed “Freedom & Opportunity” agenda includes several provisions that directly affect workers in the Whitewater Valley, such as a 100% state tax deduction on tips and retirement income, as well as a significant increase in the homestead property tax deduction.

“My plan focuses on capping property tax increases, updating deductions, [and] increasing transparency… Nothing is more important than ensuring Hoosiers can afford to live in their homes,” Governor Braun stated in his official policy platform.

According to a fiscal analysis by Indiana Public Radio, the plan also looks to cut $700 million in government spending to offset the tax reductions. While some Democrats, including State Senator Fady Qaddoura, have questioned the long-term impact on local school funding, the administration maintains the cuts are a necessary response to inflation.
