Fayette County Animal Shelter to Host ‘Clear the Shelter’ Event, Public Shot Clinic

Meet Brownie, a handsome boy who is 3-4 years old and looking for a home. As the longest resident here at the Fayette County Animal Shelter in Connersville, he dreams of a forever family.

CONNERSVILLE, IN – With its kennels at maximum capacity, the Fayette County Animal Shelter is hosting a “Clear the Shelter & Save Lives” adoption event on Saturday, September 6th, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The event aims to connect dozens of homeless pets with loving families and will also offer a low-cost vaccine clinic for community pets.

To encourage adoptions, the shelter is offering several incentives, including a number of animals with fully sponsored (free) adoption fees. For all other pets, the standard $100 adoption fee comes with a five-day home trial period, allowing families to ensure the pet is a perfect fit before any payment is made. The fee includes spay/neuter services and all necessary vaccines.

In addition to the adoptions, Shelter Director Dave Ryckman announced that a public shot clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. during the event. For dogs, a $30 package includes rabies and parvo vaccines. For cats, a $30 package covers rabies, panleukopenia, and distemper. A standalone rabies shot is also available for $15, and a kennel cough vaccine can be added for an extra $10.

Community members not looking to adopt can still help by purchasing raffle tickets to sponsor future adoptions or by participating in the shelter’s new “Dog Day Out” program, which allows volunteers to take a shelter dog on a short outing.

“Our primary goal is to clear the shelter and save lives,” said Tiffany Ailes, a shelter volunteer
