CONNERSVILLE, Ind. – Duke Energy is advising customers in Southeastern Indiana, including the communities of Connersville, Brookville, and Liberty, to prepare for potential severe weather expected this weekend. The forecast includes strong thunderstorms and high winds, which carry a significant risk of causing power outages.

In a statement, the utility company encouraged residents to prepare for potential disruptions by assembling an emergency kit with essentials like flashlights, fresh batteries, bottled water, non-perishable food, and any necessary medications. Customers are also advised to fully charge cell phones and other electronic devices before the storms arrive. For households with individuals who rely on electric-powered medical equipment, having a backup plan is critical.

“We have our crews ready to respond,” the company stated, emphasizing that they are monitoring weather conditions closely. “The safety of our customers and our crews is our top priority.”

Residents are reminded to stay away from all downed or sagging power lines, which should always be considered energized and dangerous. It is also crucial to keep roadways clear for utility crews and first responders, as obstructed roads can delay restoration and emergency services.

In the event of a power outage, customers can report it through one of the following methods:

  • Text “OUT” to 57801.
  • Use the Duke Energy mobile app.
  • Visit the outage map at duke-energy.com/outages.
  • Call 800-343-3525.
