BATESVILLE – Connersville wrapped up the regular season on the road Friday night, falling 48-12 to the Batesville Bulldogs in Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference action.
The Spartans grabbed immediate momentum on the game’s opening snap. Parker Flanigan fielded the opening kickoff and raced 89 yards down the sideline to the end zone, stunning the home crowd and giving Connersville a 6-0 lead just seconds into the contest.
Batesville responded quickly, striking for a rushing touchdown on its very first offensive snap to take a 7-6 edge. The Bulldogs established control at the line of scrimmage from there, grinding out long drives and adding two more first-half touchdowns to carry a 21-6 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Batesville kept up the pressure after receiving the second-half kick, extending the lead to 48-6 behind a balanced attack that produced four second-half scores.
Connersville continued to fight through the final whistle. On the final drive of the night, quarterback Noah Patterson guided the Spartans down the field, scrambling for extra yardage and connecting with Luke Brewer and Braden Keller to move into the red zone. With eight seconds left on the clock, Patterson found Flanigan over the middle for a 12-yard touchdown pass as time expired.
“Physicality-wise, we’re in a rough stretch, and we knew this coming in,” Connersville head coach Ryan Lynch said after the game. “We’ve been dealing with a high level of competition at the end of this schedule. Lots of teams would pack it in after week seven or eight, but we will never pack it in. That’s just the character of the guys in our locker room. They’ve been bought in from day one.”
The Spartans finish the regular season at 4-5 overall. Postseason play begins next Friday night as Connersville hosts Indianapolis Roncalli at Spartan Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
