Connersville High School seniors will have an opportunity to get a head start on their senior year and their future during the upcoming Senior Boot Camp on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in the CHS Lecture Hall.
Senior year is filled with exciting milestones, but it can also come with a long list of questions, responsibilities and deadlines. From submitting college applications and searching for scholarships to completing the FAFSA and deciding what comes after graduation, Senior Boot Camp is designed to help students and their families navigate the year ahead.
“Senior year is a stressful time for students, and we are here to help,” said CHS College and Career Coach Katy Thurston. “Student Services and I are here to help with college applications, FAFSA and more. This is a great event for parents of seniors, or seniors who want to learn what tasks need to be done during their senior year. We have a lot of students asking about CommonApp, Parchment, 21st Century Scholar information, and we really do our best to guide them during their senior year.”
During the event, students will receive information about college planning and applications, scholarships and financial aid, FAFSA preparation, career and workforce options, important senior-year deadlines, and what they should be doing now to prepare for life after high school.
Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to attend. Many of the decisions seniors will make throughout the year involve the entire family, particularly when it comes to financial aid, FAFSA requirements, college applications and planning for education or training after graduation.
Representatives from INvestEd will also be at Senior Boot Camp to give a special presentation featuring critical information for seniors and their families. The presentation will provide additional guidance on financial aid and preparing for the costs associated with education and training after high school.
“FAFSA is required for students who are going to college, this helps students get financial aid. Students and parents have to fill out FAFSA. While the FAFSA application doesn’t open until October, this is a great event to learn more about it.”
Senior Boot Camp isn’t only for students planning to attend a four-year university. Whether a senior plans to attend college, enroll in a technical or trade program, enter the workforce, pursue military service or is still unsure about the future, the event will provide resources to help students better understand their options and their next steps.
“We want our seniors to know they don’t have to figure everything out on their own,” Thurston said. “There are people at CHS ready to help them throughout the entire process.”
Senior Boot Camp will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in the Connersville High School Lecture Hall. Parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The goal of the evening is to make sure CHS seniors begin their final year informed, prepared and ready to take the next step toward their future.
