The local high school boys golf postseason got underway on June 4, 2026, as area teams competed at the Union County Sectional at Liberty Country Club. According to official tournament results, the host Union County Patriots captured the sectional team championship on their home course, while Connersville senior Trey Hughes successfully qualified for the regional tournament as an individual competitor.
Union County claimed the top spot in the team standings by posting a collective score of 328. Richmond and Franklin County also secured advancement to the regional round as teams, finishing in a tie for second place with matching scores of 333. Richmond was awarded the runner-up position based on the fifth-player score tiebreaker. Hagerstown narrowly missed the team advancement cut, finishing fourth with a 334, followed by Connersville in fifth with a 346. Centerville placed sixth with a 349, Northeastern took seventh with a 361, Rushville finished eighth with a 378, and Lincoln placed ninth with a 436. Oldenburg Academy also had players compete but did not record a complete team score.
Richmond freshman Wyatt Carter earned individual tournament medalist honors by firing the low round of the day with a 72, which included a 35 on the back nine. Franklin County sophomore Max Foster placed second individually with a 77, and Union County senior Nick Watterson finished third overall with a 78.
The top three individual players from non-advancing teams also earned regional berths. Hagerstown junior Noah Searcy and Connersville senior Trey Hughes claimed the first two spots by carding matching rounds of 80. Centerville senior Boston Beatty secured the final individual advancing position with an 81.
For the sectional champion Patriots, Watterson led the lineup with his 78. Keegan Lathery and Landon Strait each contributed rounds of 83, while Jackson McCashland carded an 84 to round out the team score. Kameryn Reuss also competed for Union County, turning in an 87.
Connersville placed fifth overall with a team score of 346, led by Hughes who shot a 38 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine for his regional-qualifying 80. Logan Young and Aiden Gibbs backed up the top position with identical rounds of 84. Young shot a 39 on the back nine to bounce back from an opening 45, while Gibbs recorded consistent split scores of 43 and 41. Talon Sherwood completed the Spartan team score with a 98, and Levi Marszalek finished the varsity lineup with a 113.
Centerville finished sixth with a team score of 349. Following Beatty’s regional-qualifying 81, Ed Parker and Collin Bowery both carded rounds of 91. Benjamin Anderson recorded a 98, and Eli Brummett finished with a 116.
Northeastern took seventh place with a team total of 361. Landon Helms paced the Knights with an 84, followed by Greyson Pennington with an 87. Jordan Dance turned in an 88, Ian Webb shot a 90, and Caden Retter carded a 94.
Hagerstown finished fourth, just one stroke out of a regional team spot, with a 334. Searcy led the Tigers with his 80, followed closely by Alexander Tinkle with an 83. Collin Werking recorded an 85, Nicholas Hileman shot an 86, and Hayden White turned in an 88.
Rushville placed eighth with a 378, led by Ryder Flannery who shot an 82. Tressler Owens carded a 91, Landon Cain finished with a 98, Kanyon Sparks turned in a 107, and Kyle Jacobs shot a 110.
Lincoln finished ninth with a team score of 436. Johnny Fugate led the Golden Eagles with a 95, followed by Josiah Berry with a 96. Caden Alverez carded a 113, and Jackson Kuhn turned in a 132.
Oldenburg Academy had two individual golfers compete. Augie Hillenbrand shot an 83, and Maxwell Gauck finished with a 101.
The advancing teams and individual qualifiers will compete next week in the regional tournament phase. The IHSAA will announce official regional course locations, tee times, and player pairings in the coming days.
