The Fayette County Free Fair Queen Contest is ushering in a new era this year with a series of exciting updates designed to expand opportunities for local youth and bring the community together for a revamped celebration.

New Venue and Schedule

Organizer Tara Henry and her committee have officially announced that the contest will return to the local high school auditorium, with the event scheduled for June 27 at 6:00 p.m. This move marks a return to a venue central to the community, promising an enhanced experience for both participants and attendees.

Reimagined Scholarship Program

Perhaps the most significant change this year is the introduction of a reimagined scholarship program.

“Beyond the crowning of the Queen we are offering scholarships to an outstanding young lady and her court that break the mold of traditional academic funding. The queen will receive a $500 scholarship and runner-up’s will receive a smaller amount.”

These scholarships are designed to support personal growth and professional development across a diverse range of interests. Organizers confirmed that the funds can be applied toward specialized training and equipment, including:

·        Professional Trade Tools: Such as cosmetology shears, clippers, and capes.

·        Educational Experiences: Including study abroad programs.

·        Vocational Training: Such as EMT classes and necessary medical supplies.

New Jr. Miss Division and Age Requirements

In an effort to include younger members of the community, the committee is thrilled to debut a new “Jr. Miss” competition, specifically tailored for young ladies between the ages of 9 and 12.

Additionally, the committee has confirmed eligibility for the Queen contest: any young lady residing in Fayette County between the ages of 17 and 21 is invited to compete for the title and the newly expanded scholarship opportunities.

Upcoming Informational Meetings

To help interested participants and their families prepare, the committee has scheduled the following call-out meetings at the Expo Hall:

– Community & Jr. Miss Call-out: May 11 at 6:00 p.m. (For Jr. Miss contestants, parents/guardians are encouraged to attend).

– Queen Call-out May 11 at 7 p.m. (For those wanting to run for Fair Queen,  parents/guardians are encouraged to attend)
