FAYETTE COUNTY, IN — Local emergency agencies worked together to pull off a successful swift water rescue Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle became trapped in a swollen creek.
Units from the Everton Volunteer Fire Department, Fayette County EMS, Fayette County EMA, Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, and Connersville Fire Department all rushed to the scene. When they arrived, responders found a white Ford pickup truck with a red topper halfway underwater in the middle of a rushing current.
The person inside the truck managed to get out safely on their own before emergency crews even arrived.
However, the situation was still urgent because a dog was trapped inside the rising vehicle. Firefighters put on their water safety gear and got into the creek, setting up a safety line so they could reach the pickup. Because of the quick thinking and teamwork of everyone involved, the crew was able to get the dog out of the flooded cab and back to the shore safely.
Authorities say that everyone is okay, including the rescue crew, the driver, and the pet. The truck had to be left in the creek for now, but it will be recovered as soon as the water levels go back down.
