The Connersville Lady Spartan basketball team advanced to the sectional championship following a 47-30 semifinal win over the Yorktown Lady Tigers in Yorktown on Saturday.
The Connersville defense held Yorktown to 17 points below their season average of 47 points. Three Lady Spartans were in double figures with senior Addison Jones contributing 14 point for Connersville. Seniors Serenity Pennington and Ahniyah Bennett had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

“I’m so impressed with how our defense has been,” Connersville Head Coach Shana Williams said. “[We’re] holding teams under their average. These girls want it so bad. We work on moving our feet and walling them up. They’re doing a better job of that instead of reaching. They’re physical, [and] they’re doing great. Addie has really picked it up. She had a great game [on Saturday]. She’s putting it all together, and we feed off of her. We need to bring it defensively [on Saturday].”
The Lady Spartans utilized a 16-7 second quarter run to gain momentum and took a 26-16 lead into the halftime break. Connersville increased their lead to 16-points at 40-24 after the third quarter. Junior Kinze Van Meter had 6 points for the Lady Spartans. Sophomore Kendyl Bottomley had 3 points for the Lady Spartans with sophomore Hope Hornsby rounding out the Connersville scoring with 2 points.
Yorktown senior senior Lilly Sylvester had 17 points to lead all scorers. Junior Olivia Conklin contributed 8 points for the Lady Tigers with junior Alexis Fields and sophomore Rylie Johnson scoring 3 and 2 points, respectively. Yorktown concluded their season at 9-13
The Lady Spartans improved to 18-7 on the season and will play the defending Class 3A Sectional 24 champion Delta Lady Eagles in the sectional final at 7:30 p.m. in Yorktown this evening. The Lady Eagles sit at 16-8 after a 58-49 semifinal win over the Jay County Lady Patriots in Saturday’s first semifinal. Delta defeated Connersville 57-50 in a competitive non-conference matchup at Delta on November 14. Connersville is 9-1 in 2026 and currently rank eighth in the Class 3A Sagarin ratings. This is the Lady Spartans first sectional semifinal appearance since 2015. The Connersville girls won their seventeenth sectional championship in program history in 2013. “These girls haven’t been in this situation,” Williams said. “It’s easier said than done to get them to settle down. but they want it. Now we’ve just got to prepare and figure out a game plan for Delta.”
