FAYETTE COUNTY — Fayette County has officially moved to a Level Red Travel Warning, the highest level of travel advisory. Under this status, travel is strictly restricted to emergency management workers only.
Fayette County Highway Supervisor Chris Gettinger provided an update on the county’s response to the ongoing winter storm.
Current Plowing Operations
According to Gettinger, highway crews were deployed at 7:00 AM this morning to begin clearing the heavy accumulation.
“Our teams are currently prioritizing the main county roads,” Gettinger stated. “We will transition to secondary routes as plowing operations continue throughout the day.”
Due to the specific nature of the current conditions and temperature, Gettinger noted that the department is not applying salt or sand mix at this time, focusing all resources on snow removal. Crews are expected to work until nightfall and will resume operations in the early hours tomorrow morning.
Dedicated Emergency Support
In a critical move for public safety, Gettinger highlighted that the Highway Department has coordinated a specialized response for first responders.
“We have a dedicated unit on 24-hour standby specifically to assist emergency services,” Gettinger said. “This truck is ready to go immediately to ensure that our volunteers, EMS, and the Sheriff’s Department can reach their destinations and respond to calls without delay.”
A Plea to the Public
The Highway Department’s primary focus remains the safety of the community, but officials emphasize that they need the public’s cooperation to be effective.
“We have to focus on the community,” Gettinger urged. “Please stay off the roads to allow our crews to work safely and to keep the paths clear for emergency vehicles.”
