Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Winter Weather Response

As a Winter Storm Warning takes effect for our region, Sheriff Zac Jones has issued a formal plan to ensure the safety of Fayette County residents, particularly our senior and homebound populations.

The Sheriff’s Department has committed to assisting citizens who require the delivery of life-saving medications. If you or a loved one are unable to safely navigate the roads due to the incoming heavy snow, the department is prepared to step in and ensure these essential supplies reach your door.

“We will help people that need medications,” Sheriff Jones stated. “If someone needs help because they cannot safely leave their home, they should contact our dispatch center directly at 765-825-2111.”

Sheriff Jones noted that the department is fully equipped for the task, utilizing a specialized side-by-side and a fleet of four-wheel-drive vehicles. The agency is also working in close coordination with the County Highway Department to maintain access to even the most remote rural areas.

“Our team is utilizing side-by-side equipment and every officer on duty is operating a four-wheel-drive vehicle,” Jones said. “If we encounter a location that is difficult to reach, we will coordinate with the county highway department to ensure we get through.”

As the snowfall intensifies, the Sheriff requests that all residents remain off the roadways.

“Once the snow starts, we ask that everyone stays home,” said Sheriff Jones. “This gives the snow plow drivers the ability to clear the roads effectively and safely.”
