Melvon “Mel” John Risch, 95, of Connersville
Melvon “Mel” John Risch, 95, of Connersville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, at his home.
One of six children of Harry and Alma Fink Risch, Melvon was born on November 15, 1930, in Connersville and was a 1949 graduate of Bentonville High School.
A veteran of the United States Army, Melvon proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to Fayette County.
On July 21, 1951, Melvon was united in marriage at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City to the former Juanita Charles. Mrs. Risch survives. Together, they shared over 74 years of marriage and built a life centered on family and hard work.
Melvon was a man of strong work ethic. He was employed for ten years at Rex Manufacturing and later dedicated 34 years to Philco-Ford. For many years, he also farmed alongside the Risch and Charles families and drove for O-Mar Food Delivery service.
A faithful member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Melvon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In his leisure time, he was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed playing basketball, served his community for many years as a basketball and baseball coach, and was a dedicated supporter of the Indiana Pacers, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns, and Indiana University basketball.
Besides his wife of 74 years, Juanita Risch, survivors include four children, Monica (Mike) Lingg of Connersville, Mark (Mary) Risch of Rushville, Jeff (Jalana) Risch of Connersville, and Craig (Janet) Risch of Connersville; eight grandchildren, Dustin (Jenny) Gay, Derek (Chelsea) Lingg, Damon Lingg, Jennifer (Preston) Long, Kyle (Taylor) Risch, Tara (David) Wright, Tyler (Marlene) Risch, and C.J. (Bailie) Risch; and eight great-grandchildren, Lily Gay, Aubrey Risch, Kyler Risch, Teagan Lingg, Blaine Risch, Ivey Risch, Lainey Lingg, and Avery Long.
He is also survived by nine step-grandchildren, Brooke (Kevin) Cassidy, Collin Herron, Lindsey (Justin Cloyd) Blakley, Dalton Blakley, Brandon Powell, Clint Cooper, Kyle Cooper, Kristin (Michael) Platt, and Hannah Mcallister; and was blessed with a number of step-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Viola Sherwood of Cambridge City; a brother, Paul Risch of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Pat Charles of Connersville; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Melvon was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Werner and Ruth Thompson; and a brother, Robert Risch.
Recitation of the Rosary will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. followed by visitation until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Reverend Bobby Vogel will officiate. Military honors and burial will follow at Everton Cemetery.
