Lady Spartan basketball pulls away from Greenfield

The Connersville Lady Spartan varsity basketball team improved to 10-6 on the season following a 55-40 non-conference home win over the Greenfield-Central Lady Cougars on Saturday.

Three Lady Spartans were in double figures with senior Addison Jones contributing 18 points to lead all scorers. Junior Kinze Van Meter had 14 points for the Lady Spartans with senior Ahniyah Bennett collecting 10.

Connersville opened the game with a 20-13 lead after the first quarter and led 22-13 with 6:17 remaining in the first half. Greenfield-Central closed the first half on a 12-3 run to go into halftime down 26-25. The Lady Spartans led 38-36 after the third quarter before closing out with a 17-4 run in the fourth.

Sophomore Kendyl Bottomley had 8 points for Connersville with senior Serenity Pennington rounding out the Lady Spartan scoring with 5 points. Greenfield junior Izzy Silcox had 14 points to lead the Lady Cougars in scoring with freshman Lexi Kerkhof contributed 11. Sophomore Brooklynn Study contributed 6 points with senior Juliann Jones and junior Ainsley Robinson rounding out the scoring for Greenfield with 5 and 4 points, respectively.

The Connersville junior varsity team defeated the Greenfield-Central reserves 48-20 earlier in the evening. The JV Lady Spartans got out early with a 19-4 run in the first quarter. Junior Myleigh Perry and sophomore Hope Hornsby had 8 points each for Connersville. Junior Kylie McHenry and freshman Peyton Chamber contributed 7 points each for Connersville.

The Lady Spartans took a 28-9 lead into the halftime break and opened the second half with a 12-0 run in the third quarter. Freshmen Isabella Dilk and Shye Evitts had 6 points each for the JV Lady Spartans. Sophomore Alaylah Ketcham had 4 points and freshman Lilly Lee rounded out the scoring for the Connersville JV with 2 points.

Greenfield freshmen Aslynn Pangburn and Ashtyn Sonsini had 9 points each for the Greenfield-Central reserves. Study contributed 2 points with the JV Lady Cougars. Connersville will travel to Union County for a non-conference matchup with the Lady Patriots on Wednesday.
