A new sign has been installed at the 1870 1st Ward Hose House in Connersville, a project completed by Sherry Robinson and Joe Glowacki.
Sherry Robinson, who created the sign, described her process: “I hand torched the boards, stencil the lettering out, then hand burned around the letters, 5 coasts [sic] of red paint on the letters, then 2 coats of finish. Drilled the holes for the new hardware.”
Joe Glowacki handled the landscaping for the new sign. He dug up the old brick border, applied weed killer, and prepared the ground. Glowacki then laid new trim and rock and applied a clear glue over the rocks.
The 1st Ward Hose House is located on West 7th Street between Grand and Western Avenues. Built in 1870, it is the one remaining of the city’s three original firehouses. The building contains memorabilia from the Connersville Fire Department, including the original Gamewell fire alert system, and is open to visitors by appointment.
