The spirit of Jennifer Gough Davidson continues to resonate in the community and at St. Gabriel School. Remembered with deep affection by her husband Mike, daughter Lyla, and son Trot, Jennifer’s profound connection to the school and her commitment to its students have created a lasting legacy. This legacy is celebrated through the 4th Annual Jennifer Davidson Golf Tournament, set to take place tomorrow, Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Arbor Crossing Golf Club (1982 W. Country Club Road, Connersville, IN). Registration is from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m., with a 2:00 p.m. tee-off.
Lyla Davidson, Jennifer’s daughter, recalls her mother’s deep-seated care for every student at St. Gabriel. “My favorite memory of Mom that is connected to Saint Gabes is how she would make every student feel like her own,” Lyla shared. “She tended to cling to the one that needed more help and show them that they always have someone in their corner. I feel like this is part of the reason that she was so loved by everyone at Saint Gabriel.”
This dedication was a hallmark of Jennifer’s involvement. “The thing I remember most about Mom’s time at Saint Gabriel is the way that she always stepped up and did whatever needed to be done,” Lyla explained. “There were many days where we had to show up to school early or stay there way after that way Mom could help get things done.” For Jennifer, her role at St. Gabriel was a cherished commitment. “I think Mom was honored to be a part of Saint Gabriel,” Lyla reflected. “I think the fact that she stayed there so long and was so involved with it, shows how much the school/church really meant to her.”
The Jennifer Davidson Golf Tournament has become a vital source of support. Past events have raised significant funds, such as the $64,803.32 that contributed to resurfacing the St. Gabriel School playground. This year, the focus of the funds raised will be slightly different, yet perfectly aligned with Jennifer’s spirit. “This year though, the money will be going to scholarships for the high school seniors and also be being given to some families throughout our community to help them out,” Lyla clarified. “We believe that Mom would be very happy with giving it to help families in the community because she was very big on giving back to the community.” Lyla added, “By being able to help out through a tournament that is dedicated in her honor, I know she would be proud of us for keeping her legacy alive by continuing to help Saint Gabriel just the way she did.”
The strong community turnout for the tournament, which includes 36 teams, prizes for longest drive and closest to pin, a 50/50 draw, and lunch, speaks volumes about Jennifer’s impact. “I think that the fact the community comes together so well and supports the golf tournament so much shows how much of a truly amazing person Mom was,” Lyla said. “There are people who come that don’t even play golf so to see how people who don’t typically play golf, put money towards this benefit it shows the impact she had on people.”
For Lyla and her brother Trot, their mother’s example is a guiding principle. “Trot and I both hope to remember to always have others’ best interest in mind even when it gets hard,” Lyla shared. “Every single day, even though Mom had 1,000 things going on, she always kept her students in mind over herself and did what was best for them.”
The annual gathering is a poignant and affirming experience for Jennifer’s husband Mike, Lyla, Trot, and their entire family. “Seeing everyone come together really means a lot to my family,” Lyla expressed. “We knew Mom was an awesome person, but to see how the community thought of her it really makes us feel good to know she’s getting the recognition she deserves. We are very grateful to have a community that is still supporting us even years later.”
Jennifer’s legacy continues to inspire. “Moms legacy continues to inspire myself and others because I have never once heard someone say something bad about her,” Lyla noted. “When you are constantly hearing people talk highly of the same person it makes you want to be like them because you would also want to be talked about like that.”
Beyond financial aid, Lyla believes the tournament strengthens the St. Gabriel community by “bringing recognition to them.”
Perhaps the most enduring lesson from Jennifer is one of resilience and perspective. Lyla shared, “The most important lesson that Mom taught me was ‘life sucks sometimes but it’s a beautiful ride’. This quote has stuck with me and is something I think about weekly.”
As friends, family, and community members gather for tomorrow’s golf tournament, they not only support St. Gabriel but also honor the unforgettable spirit of Jennifer Davidson—a spirit of generosity, dedication, and love that continues to enrich many lives.
