Brookville Woman Faces Felony Charges in Alleged Shooting Following Domestic Dispute
BROOKVILLE, IN – Formal felony charges, including Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, have been filed against a Brookville woman in connection with an alleged shooting that occurred late Wednesday night following a reported domestic incident, according to court records and police statements.
Jasmine Johnson, 39, was charged Friday, April 4, 2025, in Franklin Circuit Court 2 in relation to the alleged shooting of Michael Taylor, 47, at a High Street residence on April 2, 2025.
Police were dispatched to the home around 11:30 PM Wednesday for reports of a shooting. Responding officers found Taylor with apparent gunshot wounds to his upper left chest and left hand. According to police reports, Johnson was present at the scene. Taylor was subsequently transported to the University of Cincinnati Hospital for medical treatment.
According to statements documented in police reports, Johnson initially told officers at the scene the shooting was accidental and followed an altercation during which Taylor had allegedly struck her.
In a subsequent police interview detailed in a supplemental report, Johnson reportedly provided her account of the events leading up to the alleged shooting. After being read her Miranda rights, Johnson allegedly stated that she and Taylor had argued, and after Taylor entered her parked car, he allegedly began punching her in the face. Johnson claimed she asked him to stop multiple times before pointing her handgun at him, warning she would shoot if he continued. When Taylor allegedly dismissed the threat, Johnson stated she loaded a round into the chamber “as a warning.” She reported that the gun then discharged, asserting she “didn’t mean to shoot him.”
Johnson also alleged during the interview that Taylor told her not to call the police after the shooting occurred. Furthermore, she claimed Taylor instructed her to pick up the spent shell casing, which she reportedly placed in the couch. Police reports confirm officers later recovered a .380 casing and the handgun’s magazine from the couch area. The firearm itself was reportedly found earlier in the vehicle’s glovebox.
Police documents note that Johnson did call 911 after Taylor allegedly collapsed, initially saying she didn’t know who shot him before informing dispatch that she was responsible.
Court records confirm that on April 4, 2025, the State of Indiana filed formal charges against Jasmine Johnson, including Level 5 Felony Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon and Level 6 Felony Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon.

The Department of Child Services was reportedly contacted regarding several juveniles present at the residence during the incident. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Brookville Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and Indiana State Police.
It is important to note that all charges are allegations at this time. Under the law, the defendant, Jasmine Johnson, is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
