The Fayette County Courthouse in Connersville has reopened following a bomb threat this morning that prompted an evacuation and search. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office confirmed no explosive devices were found.
The Sheriff’s Office stated they were alerted around 9:00 AM on to multiple calls claiming two bombs, set to detonate within a specific timeframe, had been placed inside the building. The calls were made to both the courthouse and Central Dispatch.
A coordinated response involving the Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County EMA, Connersville Police and Fire Departments, Fayette County EMS, and the Indiana State Police Bomb Squad, led to the immediate evacuation and establishment of a security perimeter. An ISP Bomb Squad K9 unit cleared the building, finding no devices.
Fayette County Clerk’s office reported receiving three calls specifically targeting the Circuit Court.
The courthouse, initially closed by the Fayette County Commissioners, has since fully reopened.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the source of the threat.
