The Connersville Spartan varsity baseball team improved to 7-5 on the season with a 16-5 run-ruled 5 inning non-conference matchup at Union County on Tuesday.
The Spartans opened with 2 runs in the top of the first inning, and Union County held an early 3-2 lead after the first inning. Connersville led 6-4 after the second inning. Connersville sophomore Parker Flanigan had a 3-run home run to score senior Brayden Keller and senior Zander McHenry in the top of the third. Flanigan had 3 total runs scored on the evening.
Senior Landyn Geise 3 RBI in total with a 2-RBI single to score senior Aaron Kidd and junior Brody Sherer to take a commanding 11-4 lead in the top of the third. Shearer had 4 RBI with 3 runs scored on the evening and Geise contributed 2 total runs.
Union County junior Isaiah Martinez had 3 RBI for the Patriots. Senior Coleton Wicker scored 2 runs for Union County. Seniors Logan Boone, Caeleb Brewer, and Devan Hill each scored 1 run for Union County. Brewer and senior Dalton Creech each had 1 RBI for Union County.
Freshman Colin Good collected 5 strikeouts in 4 innings on the mound for the Spartans. Senior Noah Sizemore struck out 1 Patriot batter in 1 inning of relief work for Connersville.
Keller, senior Aaron Kidd, and McHenry each scored 2 runs for the Spartans. Juniors Gavin Brannon and Zaine Bentley each scored 1 run for Connersville.
Boone had 3 strikeouts in 3 innings in the start for Union County. Creech struck out 2 Spartan batters in 2 innings of relief for and senior Andrew Hounchell collected 1 strikeout in 1/3 innings for the Patriots.
The Spartans will travel to East Central for an Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference matchup with the Trojans on Thursday. Union County will play in a Tri-Eastern Conference contest at Union City on Thursday.
