Fayette County Resident Katy Lunsford Honored as Kentucky Colonel

Fayette County’s own Katy Lunsford has received the esteemed title of Kentucky Colonel, a prestigious honor bestowed by the Commonwealth. Lunsford was reportedly nominated by a fellow Kentucky Colonel and was presented with the award over the weekend.

Expressing her feelings on the recognition, Lunsford stated, “I feel deeply humbled to have been nominated for the esteemed title of Kentucky Colonel by a fellow KC. I was presented this prestigious award this weekend and I am overwhelmed with gratitude and pride to now be a part of this revered tradition! The Kentucky Colonel is the highest honor awarded by the Governor of Kentucky. It is a commission granted to individuals in recognition of noteworthy accomplishments, contributions to civic life, and outstanding service to a community, state, or the nation. The tradition dates back to 1813 and those commissioned are considered honorary aides-de-camp to the Governor and ambassadors of Kentucky goodwill and fellowship. The selection process for this honor is typically initiated by a nomination from another commissioned Kentucky Colonel, which is then reviewed and, if approved, officially bestowed by the sitting Governor.
