Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale Returns This Week

The Friends of the Fayette County Public Library are kicking off their annual summer book sale this week, bringing thousands of affordable books, media items, and games to local shelves. The multi-day community event returns to its usual home at the library, located at 828 Grand Avenue in Connersville.

According to member Diana Phillips, the event begins tomorrow at 4:00 PM with the exclusive Friends member preview. That opening window runs from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, giving registered members the first look at the organized tables before the general public is admitted.

Following the preview night, the doors open wide for the general public sale. The public hours run from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11. The sale continues Friday, June 12, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and wraps up Saturday, June 13, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Phillips confirmed that item pricing will remain identical to prior years, keeping the inventory highly affordable for local families, teachers, and collectors. Hardback books and CD/DVDs are set at $1.00 each, while paperbacks, puzzles, record LPs, and cassette tapes are just $0.50. Magazines and crafting patterns are available for a dime. Families shopping for young readers can also take advantage of a special children’s book rate set at three books for $1.00. The entire week concludes with the traditional, crowd-favorite Bag of Books day on Saturday only, where patrons can pack an entire grocery bag full of literature for a flat fee of $5.00.

For community members looking to support local literacy efforts, individuals can easily sign up to support the organization directly at the door. Annual membership options start at $3.00 for individuals and $5.00 for families. Higher support tiers are also available, including a business level for $25.00, a contributor level for $50.00, and a sustaining membership for $100.00.

All funds raised through the book sales and annual memberships go right back into the community, helping the Friends group sponsor critical library programming, children’s literacy initiatives, and operational resources throughout Fayette County.
