Former Connersville Spartans baseball standout Chance Bentley and the IU Southeast Grenadiers have advanced through the opening round of the national tournament and will compete in this week’s NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
Bentley, a redshirt sophomore catcher who splits time behind the plate, is hitting .278 on the season and has driven in 12 runs.
During the opening round, Bentley delivered a two hit, two RBI performance in a run rule victory over No. 3 seed Huntington University (IN), a 17–7 win. The Grenadiers followed that with a 13 inning, 6–3 win over No. 4 seed Nelson University (TX). They clinched their World Series berth by defeating top seeded Bellevue University (NE), 3–1.
IU Southeast enters the World Series at 42–14 overall after posting a 22–5 conference record. This marks the program’s ninth NAIA World Series appearance, most recently in 2024.
The Grenadiers are the No. 9 seed in this year’s field and will open against No. 2 seed Georgia Gwinnett on Friday at 3 p.m. Fans can watch by following the links at Baseball Home – NAIA. The winner advances to face the winner of the No. 3 Lewis Clark State (ID) vs. No. 8 Tennessee Wesleyan matchup on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The loser moves into the elimination bracket and will play Saturday at 6:30 p.m. against the loser of the 3 vs 8 game.
