The Connersville Spartan boys’ varsity basketball team moved to 11-7 on the season following a pair of non-conference road contests with South Ripley and Centerville over the weekend.

Connersville utilized a 20-6 second quarter run to gain momentum in a 64-51 win over the South Ripley Raiders on Friday. Three Spartans were in double figures led by senior Hunter Allen with 28 points. Sophomores Jay McMullen and Chase Corder contributed 12 and 10 points for the Spartans, respectively.

South Ripley drew even with the Spartans at 11 after the first quarter of play. The second quarter run gave Connersville a 27-17 lead at halftime. Senior Maddox Rees collected 5 points for the Spartans. Senior Logan Young contributed 4 points with junior Grady Simpkins and sophomore Eli Laughlin rounding out the Connersville scoring with 3 and 2 points, respectively.

The Spartans fell 64-48 to the Centerville Bulldogs on Saturday. The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 24-5 run in the third quarter. Centerville senior Shea Hollendonner had 20 points to lead all scorers. Senior Ethan Vecera contributed 10 points for the Bulldogs.

The physical contest was even in the first half with both teams knotted at 11 after the first quarter and 25 at halftime. McMullen had 14 points for Connersville with Rees contributing 11. Allen had 8 points for the Spartans with Corder contributing 7. Simpkins had 3 points with senior Zaine Bentley and junior Luke Brewer collecting 2 points each. Junior Jacob Laughlin rounded out the Connersville scoring with 1 point.

Senior Landyn Keiser and junior Bryson Brown each had 7 points for the Bulldogs. Senior Kaden McCord had 6 points with sophomore Jace Hollendonner and junior Landen Schlotterbeck contributing 4 and 3 points respectively for Centerville. The Bulldogs sit at 15-2 on the season and currently ranked ninth in Class 2A in the Sagarin ratings. The Spartans will host the 14-2 Whiteland Warriors on Saturday afternoon. The junior varsity contest is scheduled to tip at 1:00 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
