CONNERSVILLE, IN — Connersville Middle School basketball teams were back in action this week, navigating a series of competitive matchups against Morristown, Seton Catholic, and St. Mary’s of Greensburg.

7th Grade White: Spartans Split Recent Home Stand

The 7th grade white team earned a decisive victory Wednesday night, defeating the Seton Catholic Cardinals 33-12. Kai Smiley led the scoring with 11 points, supported by Koltyn Kafka and Waylon Hamilton with 7 points each. The team utilized a strong second-half offensive push and consistent defensive intensity to secure the win.

On Thursday, the Spartans faced the Morristown Yellow Jackets in a closely contested battle, ultimately falling 36-34. Kash Cotten led the Spartans with 10 points, followed by Waylon Hamilton with 8 and Brody Gough with 6. Despite the loss, coaching staff noted the team’s persistence and competitive effort throughout the game. The 7th grade white team currently holds a 2-5 season record.

8th Grade White: Performance Gains Despite Tough Finishes

The 8th grade white team hosted Morristown Thursday night at the Fieldhouse. The Spartans led 18-17 at halftime, showcasing what coaches described as their best half of basketball this season with disciplined defense and strong rebounding. However, Morristown’s size and speed advantages proved decisive in the second half, leading to a 48-32 final in favor of the Yellow Jackets. Bentley Sparks led CMS with 13 points, and Xavier Cooley added 7.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, the 8th grade squad traveled to St. Mary’s in Greensburg. After trailing 17-9 at halftime, the Spartans utilized increased defensive pressure to briefly take the lead in the third quarter. St. Mary’s regained the advantage to finish with a 30-26 win. Jace Tibbot led the Spartans in that effort with 9 points, followed by Cooley with 7.

Looking Ahead

The Spartans will return to the Arena on Monday, January 12, to host the Talawanda Braves. The 7th grade game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 PM.
