Clarence Bernard Mitchell, 91, of Connersville

Clarence Bernard Mitchell, 91, of Connersville, passed away surrounded by the love of his family late Friday evening, December 19, 2025, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

One of three sons of Frank P. and Flora E. Toschlog Mitchell, Clarence was born on April 22, 1934, in Richmond, Indiana. He grew up in the Centerville area and was a proud 1953 graduate of Centerville High School.

A veteran of the United States Army, Clarence served his country during the Korean Peacetime era from 1957 to 1958. He was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and served with the 14th USASA Field Station. For his dedicated service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and continued his commitment in the Army Reserves until 1963.

Clarence was a man of strong work ethic. He spent 27 years with General Telephone (GTE) as a construction splicer, retiring in 1997. Following his retirement, he enjoyed staying active in the workforce and was a familiar face at Riedman Motors.

A faithful and devoted member of Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, Clarence lived his faith through service. He was a 4th Degree Life member of the Knights of Columbus, where he shared many years of fellowship and community involvement. In his personal time, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was deeply devoted to his family. For many years, he was an active member and devoted to 4-H.

On August 26, 1961, Clarence was united in marriage at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City to Mary Elizabeth Mitchell, who survives. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family.

Survivors also include a son, Gregory Edward Mitchell and his wife, Vanessa, of Liberty, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Mitchell, of Sarasota, Florida; and five granddaughters who were the pride of his life, Kaitlin, Allianna, Caralina, Emma, and Ella Mitchell.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Chris Patrick Mitchell, and two brothers, Eugene and Harold Mitchell.

Recitation of the rosary will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Dustin Boehm at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gibault Children’s Services, Fayette County 4-H Program, or Saint Gabriel Catholic Church.
