The Connersville Lady Spartan tennis team are holding “A Serve to Remember.” A fundraising event for 4 charities at their home invitational at CHS on Saturday, May 10.
“We’ve all decided to pick an organization that is meaningful to each of us,” Connersville Head Coach Jason Krause said. “The money raised will be split between the four schools to their specific organizations.”
Connersville is raising funds for the National Organization for Rare Disorders. The Lapel Lady Bulldogs are serving the Riley Children’s Foundation. Blackford is raising funds for the Rotary Club of Hartford City and Hauser is working with the Students Fund of Hope.
“All four great organizations,” Krause said, “and bringing awareness of anything and everything to all communities.”
The Lady Spartans will be selling that Tee-shirts courtesy of Just 4 Fun Printing available at https://tinyurl.com/yf8pztch. Tee-shirt preorders can be made by Monday, May 5 and will be available at the event. In Memory/Honor of corrugated Tennis Balls can be purchased at https://tinyurl.com/mrxpe7yn. Preorders of In Memory/Honor of signs can be preordered by Thursday, May 8 to ensure placement prior to the Invitational.
The 4 schools will put together gift baskets and other items for a silent auction. Lady Spartan tennis parents will have hamburgers, hot dogs, walking tacos, and concessions along with offering from local venders in Shark Bite Popcorn and Beach Blends.
“I was wanting something more than just an invitational,” Krause said. “Hopefully, it will be a fun community event. I’ve been thinking about it for several years. It’s something I’ve had in my mind for different causes that are meaningful to each of those individuality.”
On the court, the Lady Spartans defeated the Richmond Lady Red Devils 4-0 in a non-conference matchup on Thursday. The Lady Spartans had wins in junior Sophia Starr (6-2, 6-1) at 1 singles, junior Isabella Starr (6-3, 6-2,) at 2 singles, senior Bailey Lucas (6-2, 6-0) at 3 singles, and at 2 doubles (6-2, 6-2) from the 2 doubles team of juniors Maddie Harrison and Ella Miller (6-2, 6-2).
The Connersville 1 doubles team of senior Olivia Struewing and Cam Butts led 1-0 in a rain cancelled match at 1 doubles after the team match was decided.
Connersville will host the Batesville Lady Bulldogs in an Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference matchup on Monday.
