CONNERSVILLE, IN — In a special Republican caucus held to fill the vacancy left by former Fayette County Treasurer Sarah Meredith, Jamie Durham emerged as the victor after two rounds of voting. The meeting, conducted according to Indiana Code, brought together eligible precinct committeemen and proxies to select a successor to oversee the county’s finances and tax collections.
Three candidates filed declarations of candidacy and addressed the caucus with three-minute stump speeches. Jamie Durham emphasized his eight years of experience in auditing and consulting, along with thirty years of experience in policy, procedure, and compliance. During his address, Durham told the caucus, “I am an experienced working auditor and consulting over eight years… also over 25 years experience with policy and procedure training.” Regarding his vision for the office, he noted, “I want to continue the integrity of the party and consistently live by strong values. Ethics, principles, enacted honestly, and trustworthiness and accountability.”
Lavonda Glover, a former two-term Fayette County Treasurer and current Chief Deputy, highlighted her institutional knowledge and banking background, while Ronnie Wiley, a local businessman, focused on his experience managing multi-million dollar operations.
A total of twenty-six eligible votes were available, requiring a majority of fourteen to win. In the initial ballot, Jamie Durham led with eleven votes, followed by Lavonda Glover with eight and Ronnie Wiley Jr. with seven. Because no candidate reached the necessary threshold, Ronnie Wiley Jr. was removed from the ballot, and the caucus held a runoff between Durham and Glover. In the second round, Jamie Durham secured the position with fifteen votes to Glover’s ten.
Following the announcement of the results, the Caucus Chairman certified Jamie Durham as the newly elected Treasurer. In his acceptance remarks, Durham thanked the precinct committeemen and reaffirmed his commitment to the citizens of Fayette County. “I will not let you guys down,” Durham stated. “Like I said, I will hold the integrity of the party and so forth, making sure we are in compliance… I’m looking forward to serving Fayette County and the citizens because, like we said, this is what it’s about. This is not just a political role here.”
The Fayette County Republican Party Chairwoman Lisa Witt concluded the meeting by inviting members to their next scheduled gathering on Tuesday at 6:00 PM, which will feature a presentation on local economic development presentation from EDG director Brad Colter.
